CINO CINELLI
"The Origins of the Champion"
On the occasion of the Intermediate Sprint of the 2019 Giro d'Italia in Montespertoli, the Municipality, in collaboration with the company Cinelli, celebrates one of its most illustrious citizens, Cino Cinelli, with the exhibition dedicated to him "The Origins of the Champion".
The exhibition is organised by Cinelli Vintage.
This is the first institutional event dedicated to Cino by the Cinelli Vintage department, strongly desired by Antonio Colombo to enhance and spread the history and life of Cino Cinelli and his innovative work.
"We are proud to bring our contribution to this beautiful initiative of the Municipality of Montespertoli which we thank. Also, special thanks go to Marcello Manca, the animator of the Cinelli Vintage division, for having plunged with commitment and passion into Cinelli's past, bringing to the surface precious narratives and unpublished materials to tell the genius of the cyclist as well as the inventor and builder Cino, with whom I had the good fortune to work and whose legacy I collected, merging it with that of Columbus, the family business that this year celebrates its 100th anniversary". Antonio Colombo.
Twenty-two images, with several previously unpublished ones, portray the victorious athlete and celebrate his friendships in the world of great cycling as well as moments of his work within the Cinelli company founded in 1944. The exhibition retraces through words, images and an installation the history of Cino Cinelli athlete, his prize list and the evolution of his work as a manufacturer of frames and components for bicycles. To complete the story, a selection of pieces created by Cino Cinelli follows, including a model of Supercorsa in the 70s, a Unicanitor saddle (the first saddle with plastic hull in the history of cycling, the saddle of champions, from Eddy Merckx to Felice Gimondi); a Nitor seatpost; a pair of M71 pedals, forerunner of Cinelli's patent quick release pedals as well as some examples of the famous handlebars.
Cinelli Vintage exhibits his philological research effort on the origins of the champion and celebrates his skills as an obstinate perfectionist innovator and visionary. The history and work of Cino Cinelli are part of the heritage of Gruppo Srl, a company that brings together the two historical brands Cinelli and Columbus, under the guidance of Antonio Colombo.
On May 11, the day of the inauguration of the exhibition, Paola Gianotti, Cinelli ambassador engaged in the Giro di Paola, which anticipates by one day all the stages of the Giro d'Italia to promote safety on the road (io rispetto il ciclista), will pass by Montespertoli and stop for a greeting at the exhibition.
